Interactive Map of the Lungau

The Lungau Tourist Offices provide a really good Interactive Map depicting an overview of the Valley. There you can see an overall view of the Ski Region and Ski Touring routes, the locations of various attractions including Alm Huts, Churches, Museums and Wild Life Parks. There are detailed maps of Walking Routes and Hiking Trails, Bus Stops, Web Cams and lift stations. You can zoom in using the tool on the top left hand side of the page.
Yet another good reference source is the interactive Alpine Touren Karte. This depicts everything from Ski Pistes and Touring Routes to Mountain Bike Trails and Nordic Walking Paths.

Winter in the Lungau brings the snow and turns the area into a beautiful white winter wonderland. Our mountainous valley is a natural host for all types of winter sports and attractions and the Lungau is well known for its extensive skiing, snowboarding, cross country and ski touring possibilities.
The region caters for every snowsports enthusiast with a good range of prepared piste and, with the right conditions, lots of off-piste opportunities.
There are four ski areas within easy reach of the accommodation which in total offer over 300km of pisted runs, a number of friendly Ski Schools with children specific tuition and day care for toddlers. Skiers and Snowboarders alike can enjoy free weekly night skiing on groomed and floodlit runs. Lift Passes are very well priced with purchase options to suit everyone from the leisurely 2 run-a-day skier to the die-hard enthusiast. Over 70s have a special week dedicated to them where, if you can prove you are in fact over 70, you get to ski for free!!!
With the right amount of snow the valley is a veritable paradise network of Langlauf (Cross Country) Ski Tracks with 26 trails stretching around 200km in length, 160km of skating trails and high altitude routes in Schönfeld-Thomatal, Prebersee, Mariapfarr and on Katschberg where snow is guaranteed until spring.
Ski Touring is very popular in this area with numerous routes that can either take you up the piste or off into the untracked snowfields and away from the better know hills.
A Ski Bus servicing the whole region is free to all those who have purchased a ski pass with package offers for Langlaufers and Walkers. In true Austrian fashion the ski buses run on-time and at regular intervals throughout the day. The closest bus stop to the accommodation is around 5 minutes walk away.
If you can tear yourself away from the slopes and tracks long enough, you can also enjoy Ice Skating on natural frozen lakes, curling, horse drawn sleigh rides, winter walks and snow shoe tours, snow bikes and taboganning, test out your winter driving skills in the Lungauring, hire a Quad bike, go for a Tandem Paraglide. Or if you need to simply relax after an already energetic day check out the BadeInsel Swimming area in Tamsweg where kids (big and small) can have fun on the huge water slides or where you can chill out in a Sauna or Whirlpool. Samsunn Wellness Centre in Mariapfarr takes it further with health and beauty treatments, massage, steam and sauna rooms - everything you need to pamper and relax.
Then of course there are the numerous Alpine Huts, Restaurants, Cafes and Bars. Whether you are on the Piste and need to warm your hands by a roaring fire, or walking through town and want to stop for a coffee break you can be assured of a hearty welcome, great service and a selection of local delights.
