There you can see the locations of various attractions including Alm Huts, Churches, Museums and Wild Life Parks. There are detailed maps of Walking Routes and Hiking Trails, Bus Stops, Web Cams and lift stations. You can zoom in using the tool on the top left hand side of the page.

With over 300km of slopes and snow until late spring, the Lungau offers great skiing and snowboarding opportunities for the whole family.

There are over 150km of Cross Country Ski trails available in the Lungau, offering much variety to the avid Langlaufer.
Skating (on skis) is becoming an increasing popular winter pastime and the Lungau boasts around 100km of skating trails for the ambitious skater to try.

Winter Walking and Hiking is an excellent way to experience the peace and the beauty that is the Lungau Valley in the winter. Walking routes are well signed and maps are available from the Tourist Offices. Some of the Town and Mountain Lift websites provide good descriptions and further ideas too - have a look at St Michael / English

| Nordic Walking |

Nordic Walking ( English ) was originally developed in Finland as a method of summer training for top athletes. It has grown swiftly in popularity since it's first introduction with many dedicated trails and schools now located across Europe. It is said to be very easy to learn, using a similar method to that of Cross Country Skiing, and able to be performed with different techniques at varying levels of intensity. Nordic Walking is also well promoted for those with back and knee problems.
There are a number of Nordic Walking trails across the Lungau, including St Michael / English Mariapfarr have a great website with details about their 119km of alpine walks. Further information can be found at the Local Tourist Offices

| Snow Shoe Walking Tours |

Walking in snow shoes is easy to learn and fun to do, allowing you to explore places that would otherwise be difficult. A number of the outdoor centres offer guided tours and moonlit Snow Shoe Walks..

Between March and season end in April there is an option to buy a combination Golf and Ski pass. For around 40 Euros you can ski until 1pm and spend the rest of the afternoon on the green.

There are numerous sledging locations (Rodelbahnen) throughout the Lungau.

| Ice Skating and Curling |

Ice Skating and Curling are two wonderful ways to enjoy the frozen winter conditions. St Michael offers both at the town's Sportplatz.

There are numerous small, privately owned huts located throughout the Lungau mountains. The food is home made and delicious and served in healthy measures. There are two main child care providers in our immediate region. Not to be confused with Ski School these groups provide trained carers and teachers, offering activities including drawing, painting, crafts, games, sleigh rides, sledging, snowman building and snowball fights. Naturally the activities available will depend upon the age of the child involved.

Die BadeINSEL / English can be found in Tamsweg, and provides holiday fun for the whole family in any weather. Attractions include an 80 metre long black hole waterslide, indoor and outdoor swimming pools - yes outdoor even in the winter! This therapy is recommended for all who want to be healthy, but focuses on those suffering from Asthma, Allergies, Heart Complaints and Stress. A Hay Bath is a natural alpine treatment that stimulates the bloodstream and relaxes the body. For generations the medicinal properties of the grasses grown in the Lungau have been used in this way. It is said to be good for Rheumatic complaints and can help to boost the immune system.

If you want to absorb the history and witness some incredibly beautiful architecture, the Lungau will not disappoint. Our region has no less than 4 Castles, numerous Pilgrimage churches, Museums and Fortresses. Each town has it's own attractions.
As you may expect many attractions only open between June and September. However the local Tourist Offices have been known to promote winter opening times too, usually between December and March. For more accurate information, check with the local Tourist Office or contact the sites directly. Not all attractions are represented on the internet, however where websites are available we have included them on our LINKS page.

| The Christmas Advent Market |

December brings the Christmas Advent Market. The Market usually begins the first weekend of the month, continuing each weekend until Christmas.
The Adventmarkt is host to numerous stalls with hand made crafts, culinary delights and confectionary.
There are musical performances, cultural celebrations, story telling, craft demonstrations and of course the famous theatrical Krampuslauf through the streets of town.

New Year is a much bigger and louder celebration than Christmas with singing, dancing and fireworks over the mountains lasting into the early hours of New Years Day, don't plan on getting much sleep!
