The Lungau Tourist Offices provide a really good Interactive Map depicting an overview of the Valley. There you can see the locations of various attractions including Alm Huts, Churches, Museums and Wild Life Parks. The map details Walking Routes, Hiking and Biking Trails both around the towns and over the Mountain landscape. You can zoom in using the tool on the top left hand side of the page.

The Golf Club Lungau is set in it's own private paradise among the Mountainous vista. It is located just off the main road in Sankt Michael. There are many courses and packages on offer and their website is available in English and German.

The Lungau is a mountain bike and cycling paradise. There are no less than 15 official routes through the towns, along the river, over and around the surrounding hills and mountains. All trails are well signed and offer varying levels of difficulty. Detailed Maps are available from the Tourist office for €9,00

Walking and Hiking

Walking and Hiking is a popular pastime in Austria. The Lungau offers a wealth of different routes in breathtaking scenery with over 60 mountain lakes / English. You can quench your thirst, curb your hunger and take a well deserved rest in one of the many traditional and homely huts along the way.
The Lungau Kulturwanderung is well signed with a series of notice boards describing local ancient histories, myths and legends as you walk through the Lungau towns. The Waldlehrpfard takes you on a trip through the flora and fauna of the Landscape. There also is a great mountain hiking route to Aineck and Bonner Hütte. Nordic Walking & Jogging

Nordic Walking was originally developed in Finland as a method of summer training for top athletes. It has grown swiftly in popularity since it's first introduction with many dedicated trails and schools now located across Europe.
It is said to be very easy to learn, using a similar method to that of Cross Country Skiing, and able to be performed with different techniques at varying levels of intensity. It is also well promoted for those with back and knee problems.

Grossglockner High Alpine Road
|

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of our most famous Mountain Passes. This well
known 48km alpine route, which has special features and considerations
specifically for Motorcycle Rider, takes each traveller on a wonderful
journey to an altitude of 2,504m and into the Heart of the Hohe Tauern
National Park. The Grossglockner Mountain is the highest peak in Austria
at 3,798m and also counts among one of the highest mountain peaks in
the Alps.

There are a number of open air Swimming Pools in the Lungau, one of the nicest being our very own Open Air Pool in St Michael with options for Mini Golf, Table Tennis, Sun Loungers and Restaurant. The St Michael town website supplys some superb panoramic views of the pool

One of the largest pool complexes can be found a short drive away in Tamsweg. Die BadeINSEL / English has both indoor and outdoor pools and offers all year round wet fun! There are Waterslides for the kids (big and small), Tennis, Athletics and a good Restaurant.

The Lungau "Eachtling" is the brand name for the type of potatoes grown in the Lungau. Our valley provides an ideal climate for growing potatoes and is famous for it's produce. Also, look out for:
Chocolina - a range of chocolate products made in the Lungau. The speciality sweets are low allergy, made using sheeps milk (lactose free) or goats milk.

If you want to absorb the history and witness some incredibly beautiful architecture, the Lungau will not disappoint. Our region has no less than 4 Castles, numerous Pilgrimage churches, Museums and Fortresses. Each town has it's own attractions.

The Silver Mine at Ramingstein offers a good day out with options for the whole family both above and below ground. Tours by appointment: T 0043 (0)64742296 or 6763442163
In the same location you can find a dedicated Respiratory Centre. The therapy is recommended for all who want to be healthy, but centres around those suffering from Asthma, Allergies, Heart Complaints and Stress. | The Murtalbahn |


|
The Murtal Railway provides many possibilities for travellers and train enthusiasts, including ticket options enabling you to travel with your bicycle to destinations around Murau, Weiz and Übelbach. From June to September, Steam Train Rides are available with round trips from Tamsweg to Murau.

| The Taurachbahn |

The Taurachbahn, formerly part of the Murtalbahn, is Austria's highest narrow guage railway. It runs between June and September, offering family Steam train rides from Mauterndorf to St Andrä or Mariapfarr.

| The Tschu Tschu Bahn |

The Tshu Tshu Steam train runds from Rennweg to Pöllatal through the peaceful Carinthean landscape. The train can carry up to 50 passengers and operates in July and August.

| Katschberg Adventure Park |

This is one of our newest attractions open in June 2009 with further development plans for 2010. The Katschberg Adventure Park / English is a tree top obstacle course, the highest point being 10m off the ground. It offers many challenges and exhilarating experiences.
